I just read your inspirational story in the Peace Arch News. You are a role model for others who suffer traumatic injuries, and a reminder to all how precious life is. Good luck with your upcoming memoir – it will undoubtedly touch numerous lives.
The other day I was watching Global News about a ballerina who had suffered an injury and her return to dance. I immediately thought of you – one of many thoughts of you the past nine years. So I googled “Harriet, ballerina” and up came your blog (you gotta love google)!! I was so excited to learn how well you have done, it brought tears to my eyes and pure joy!
I occupied the bed across from you in the Royal Columbia Hospital the first week of November 2007. When all was quiet at night you would move your fingers against the sheets on your bed; when the nurses came in to sit you upright in a wheelchair you let them know it hurt – your determination and stamina was evident even then!
After my discharge from the hospital when I heard someone complain about the small things in life, I would say “Let me tell you about Harriet…..” Your message of determination, perserverence, and love of life goes far beyond those who know you!
I am so glad we “met” nine years ago – You are truly an inspiration!
I put the best of me today to comment to you and for the world.
You were a cyber stranger and quickly became a spirit friend of warrior recovery.
We all have stories to share and book by book I hold hope that we can inspire light to those drifting in struggle, wrestling with words, so that another heart can learn to sing again after the brokeness from trauma.
I just saw your notification of your Courage to Come Back Award. I am the recipient of the 2018 award for the Mental health category. I just wanted to congratulate you for the award, and for everything you have accomplished. You have been and will continue to be an inspiration to many. I will be at this years dinner and hope to meet you in person and congratulate you. Enjoy the whole experience ❤
